I'm honestly not sure about the intentions of the original cabinets; forgetting the ugly gold shelf standards and glass shelves, the little cabinets were kinda nifty, but they were so shallow, I wasn't sure what you'd use them for. Wine bottles? Regardless, I pulled them and did the same false wall/countersunk Rakks bracket dealie as by the kitchen table. It's hard to tell in the picture, but I used faaaaancy mahogany-laminated plywood for the shelves (and edging) so they came out really nice. I also lucked out with the Ikea cardboard magazine holders on the floor that almost perfectly match the blue of the back wall. There are a couple of guitar hangers as well... that's Kim's short-scale shell pink Fender Duo-Sonic on the left. Oh yes, and on top is the Casio MT-40 that started it all for me at age 11 (still works!).
